Wooden Covered Bridge

by John
(Bay Village, OH USA)

There was much construction on either end of the bridge as well as on the sides of the bridge as the bridge is being restored. So instead of taking a more conventional photo of the entrance of the bridge with the pretty trees, I was forced to improvise and decided to photograph the interior of the bridge (orange barrels to my right and left while photographing!). I like the angles created by the wood within the bridge and by the sunlight in the foreground of the photo.

Alexandra Bridge in the mist, Ottawa, Ontario

by Abigail Gossage
(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)

As I was walking home from an early morning appointment, the rising sun started to warm the waters of the Ottawa River. I thought I would be too late to get my camera and catch the mist but in fact my timing was impeccable. Ten minutes later and the mist was gone.

Bridge to Memories

by Marilynn Evans
(Sequim, WA, USA)

The photo was taken on a foggy day at Deception Pass, Whidbey Island, Washington state. The photo seemed ethereal so I added the image of a woman in the past. I liked the final image.

Decorative Strength

by Lorna
(Saskatchewan, Canada)

Although this old concrete country bridge lacks intricate decorative features or world acclaim, it's perception of strength intrigued me. I was thankful that the late morning sun had created decorative, repetitious, triangular shadows that contrasted the shape of the arches and the strong vertical lines of the pillars. It seemed to add another element to an otherwise quite ordinary bridge.

"At the Bridge"

by Pierre Falzon
(Pickering, Ontario, Canada)

This bridge looked interesting and I wanted to capture its symmetry and also add some human element to the picture. I exposed for a silhouette to define the symmetrical outline of the bridge and waited for people to walk by. The poignant moment came when a couple stopped to have a conversation as a family of three passed by.

Evening Stroll

by Charles Luker
(San Angelo, TX, USA)

I had just finished putting my camera and tripod away after taking several exposures of the bridges, when a young couple approached the foot bridge. I scrambled to get my camera just in time to take a hand held shot. These two were the only people who came by the whole time I was there. <:O)

Very Old Foot Bridge

by Akhtar Khan
(UK)

There are three bridges on this river, two of them are foot briges and this is one of them. There is a nice embankment along side to spend a quiet afternoon and enjoy. I have visited this place many times and seen birds flying very often. This time I had my camera with me purposely set it on tripod and waited having infra-red remote in my hand. It took 40 minutes when I saw this bird flying over the bridge. I triggered the shutter and captured this shot. I was very lucky though!

Beneath the Bridge

by Wendy Reeve
(Motueka, Nelson)

The underside of the bridge is far more interesting than the top. This is the narrow bridge over the Motueka River. A 'clip on' has been added for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

Quake-damaged Footbridge

by Gaile Douglas
(Motueka, New Zealand)

Last weekend I visited Christchurch, NZ. This footbridge crosses the Avon River and is still in a state of disrepair after over 15 months since the "Big Quake" struck on the 26 February 2011. Close to the bridge is a scene of tranquility and quietness but the streets in the area are almost deserted, as many of the people have left this scene of destruction for good. Very sad!

A bridge leading into a Chinese walled garden in Nelson, NZ. I gave it the impressionistic touch to see what would happen and quite liked the result.
