Highway of Heroes

by Pierre Falzon
(Pickering, Ontario, Canada)

A convoy of vehicles carrying a dead soldier's body with his family travels along the Highway of Heroes. Since 2002, when the first dead Canadian soldiers were returned from Afghanistan, crowds have lined the overpasses to pay their respects as convoys pass. This was taken two years ago from one of the Hwy. 401 overpasess in the East end of Toronto. The highway now bears the additional name of Highway of Heroes to honour Canadian soldiers who have died.

The Frist at Sunrise

by Rick
(Nashville, TN, U.S.A.)

I have driven past The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville almost daily on my commute to work. The road leading up to the Frist in this photo runs basically east to west between the street that runs around the building and the main street which is behind my position. During the week it is quite busy with a bevy of Nashville motorists.

However, before sunrise on this Saturday morning it was quiet with no cars to prevent me from setting my tripod in the middle of the street near the intersection and traffic light behind me. The parking lots on either side of the road are usually pretty full, too, but not this morning.

In the daylight, the street and sidewalks are mainly a brownish-gray color – typical for a well-worn street. I really like how the streetlights, predawn glow, longer shutter speed and a little tweaking of the white balance makes the scene come alive.

Windriver Sunrise

by Todd Richardson
(Clarkston, Washington, USA)

Each morning at the Trial Lawyers College (yes, it REALLY is in the Wyoming Mountains) we would walk this hill. It allowed us to clear our minds, open our hearts, and come back refreshed. We would leave the valley in darkness and welcome the day at the top. This was from one of our last days there, and for me, the road stretching ahead into the coming light with higher mountains waiting for us to come was a wonderful metaphor for where I was at that time in my life and where I'm heading.

Lonely Valley Road

After the storm

After the storm

After a winter storm had passed we went looking a road scene and wandered up the Little Sydney Valley. A no exit valley the letterboxes stood in the all day shade. This photograph taken to capture the swoop of the road as we headed back down.

University Avenue in Toronto

by Pavel Muller
(Toronto, ON, Canada)

This photo was taken from the Canada Life building, taking advantage of "Doors Open Toronto 2012". You are looking south from south of Queen Street towards Front street. Not so super-amazing, but a rare view, as Canada Life building is usually not open to photographers.

Light @ The End Of The Tunnel

by John

I don't know if this is technically a road or a path! Tough to get good lighting in this canyon, I did my best. I took this photo yesterday at Nelson Ledges, OH USA.

This photo was taken from the parking garage roof overlooking QEW.

First time I parked there during the day. Watching cars speed below me, decided to come back at night to shoot it.
