Alida and Nan at the beach
For me nothing says summer like the beach. And when you take your grandchildren to the beach you just have to give them a plastic bucket and spade and they are happy.

Sunflowers
A field of sunflowers is like an appreciative audience at a concert - eager to be entertained, attentive and silent.

Summer is fun in the sun. Taken at Malolo LaiLai, Fiji
This was taken during a summer holiday in Fiji. The days were spent under the palm trees relaxing on the beach with a book or a dip in the water to cool off or, snorkeling off the beach.
On this particular afternoon, there was a spectacular low tide. Usually the yellow pontoon is floating in water 12 feet deep and the outer sand reef isn't visible with the naked eye. But not this day.
How I wish to be back there....

The Northwest coast of Puerto Rico offers some of the most spectacular coastal views of the Caribbean. This shot is from Isabela, a small town with a big coast.
Nothing says summer like a walk on this beach.

We were returning to Brisbane from a Cruise to Cairns, Queensland and headed straight into a huge dust storm which started in the outback and stretched from Sydney to Rockhampton, north of Brisbane. This picture was taken early morning from the Brisbane River looking towards the dual Gateway Bridge. The red dust covered absolutely everything and took days to clean up - just another part of an Australian summer.

We camp regularly at Christmas time at Maroochydore (Queensland, Australia) and when the fishermen return, the pelicans and seagulls are ever hopeful for a treat.

Bell Lake
Every year we get together with our old school friends (scattered now across North America) and go on a week long canoe trip. This summer it was to Killarney Provincial Park.
I took this photo on a day we had free from canoeing and portaging, while camping on Bell Lake.
What a perfect, lazy, hot summer day it was!
